Wonderful, for your son and for you. My 4 and almost 6 year old grandsons have made pens for their preschool teachers for the last two years. We used a small metal lathe, and made only straight sided pens so they wouldn't have to hold sharp tools. The older one is ready to try onthe wood lathe. I think the younger is going to be turning hand wheels instead of holding tools for at least another year.
