Recently some one asked me if I could make a Half Back, sort of, with a Regan style handle. It seemed interesting to me so I decided to try. I posted these over on the net so I thought I would see what the folks on the Creek thought. The hang angles are at approx. 25 degrees with the tooth line.
So the first is a pretty standard Half Back in walnut with 10 ppi rip. I simply added a curve to the heel.
The second saw is 18 "as well. 12 ppi cross cut. The plates are actually about 18-3/4" x 0.032" total. The third is a Hickory with 12ppi rip I made for some one else. So what do you think? Have I lost my mind?238306238294238298238299238305

Ron was kind enough to make one for me.

Y'all better get yours, before I come back for the rest.
Nice balance, heavy enough to stay in the cut and the half back makes for better control at the heel end.

The Regan handle is really comfortable. Ron should be proud of these.

Very nice Ron!

I especially like the profiles of the plate and tote on your second walnut handled saw -- they just looked like they were hand made by a real craftsman!

I love the Regan handles -- the narrow thumb and forefinger grip make Saws feel lighter and more maneuverable to me. Thanks a lot for sharing the pictures -- very inspirational!

....I guess I could make another tool -- that half finished Dresser isn't going anywhere... hum ...?

Thanks to all for the kind words. Some of the saws are currently being evaluated by some one a lot more knowledge in this area than I. Some pros and cons so far. What feels right in my hand may certainly not feel right to some one else. What ever they look like, they still have to do their job well.
