Silvertone Brass easy to engrave?

We have a Universal Laser at my job and my friend is buying Silvertone Brass Pocket watches for his groomsmen and he wants to engrave them. They're kinda pricey and I don't want to screw any of them up. Can you just straight up engrave on silvertone or do I need to use Cermark on them? If you can just engrave them, does anyone have settings for a 60 watt laser or some suggestions on where to start?

I would pass on that job. Cermark may work but I imagine there's a coating on the silvertone brass which will prevent it from adhering.

If I were to engrave them I would use the diamond drag method.
