Poplar Plate with Jo Sonja Iridescent Spin-art rim and a pierced butterfly. Around 8" (20cm) across. Finished with waterborne lacquer.

That edge is so cool. I like the colors on a black background. How fast did you spin it while adding the paint and what did you spin it on?

That is very creative and I really like your color choices Eric..........the piercing is really nice as well. You have a real looker there!

Dave, I spun it on the lathe before flipping it around to remove the tenon. I pulsed the lathe for a few seconds at around 900 RPM a few time to get it to flow enough. I put a box around it while spinning to ensure that any paint flung off would not spray the lathe or anything else. After the paint dried I sprayed some cheap lacquer to seal the design before flipping it to remove the tenon.

Eric, thanks for the info. I assumed that it had to be horizontal, but wasn't sure how to do it. Your lathe idea is a great one.
