I had no shop time all week, so yesterday I decided to change all that. One was a first for me. It is called umbrella magnolia and I got enough to turn 2 pieces out of it. It turned real well wet, now we will wait till it dries. The second is a black ash burl platter. It is about 10" wide and is finished with walnut oil. I am sure glad I spent a few dollars and built a "cool room" to turn in, it would have been too hot to work in the shop otherwise. Comments are always welcome good or bad. Thanks for looking, Russell

Really like the platter! Would really like some more info on your "cool room".

Jon, I built a 30'x60' shop earlier this year. Inside I framed a 12'x16' room with a suspended ceiling and insulated it very well. I put a small window unit inside for the brutal temps that we have been having. I probably will get a larger window unit at some point because it takes a little time to cool the room. It sure is nice to have a cool breeze blowing on you while it is 98 degrees outside. Thanks for the comments.

I never turned an end grain platter. Nice look with the NE.

Mike it was a burl cap. It didn't take 20 min. to turn start t finish, the sanding took a little longer.

Great job on both of those Russell. Love that burl platter; look forward to seeing the finished magnolia!
