Any recommendations for shopping for old hand tools? I'm in central MA right now and will be on the Cape on Sunday. Any antique, vintage tool stores in those areas anyone can recommend? I'm not a collector, more of a obsessed user. :)

Definitely a bucket list item to get there someday and spend at least 3 days looking around inside.

You are seriously underestimating traffic on and off the Cape (http://www.capecodlivecam.com/bourne.shtml), and the transit of Boston.

Both are notorious for delays of unknown origin, of indeterminate duration.
I recommend the Seekonk Speedway fleamarket on Sunday mornings.

Bring a flashlight, wear bug spray and gloves, arrive early.

Crap. As a resident of MA, this post will no doubt cost me money sooner or later....... ;)

If you are going 'TO' the cape on Sunday, traffic might not be so bad (imagine a large % of Boston and the surrounding area going TO the cape after work Friday, and then OFF the Cape late Sunday).

So I would do your excursions before the cape as a destination on a Sunday. Hopefully you arent leaving until the following week.

Route 6A on the Cape from Sandwich all the way to Brewster is littered with antique stores and many have old tools. I grew up in MA

Thanks for the traffic warnings, but I actually lived on the cape for a couple of years, just wasn't into woodworking then. I've come across a couple that look promising. I'll let others know what I find.

Kevin,
If you do make it to Maine, make sure you also visit this company.

I wouldn't be able to pay my mortgage if I stopped there :-)

You could live in your shop. ?

And talk to your hand tools (because your wife would no longer talk to you....).

Not sure what you would eat... whats the nutritional value of wood shavings...??

I was in Rhode Island 2 years ago. Check out some of the consignment shops as you travel around. I know the ones I went to had some good quality old tools in them.
