I now have in my possession a tap and die set for 1/4-20 threads.
I will loan this set of thread making tools to those in need of making or repairing threads.

PM me and I will ship them to you. Of course you will pay shipping to return them.
Please treat them with respect and kindness as the taps and dies are getting very hard to find.

6mm drill rod works well for screws. 6mm comes out to about .236" or so. A little under .250".
I don't see why you could not use 1/4" CRS rod.

I will enclose the proper size tap handle with the tap.

If you need advice on using either the tap or die please PM me.

NOTE: tap should be used dry on casting iron.

Dale

Sorry. Spelling corrected.

I also thought this was what Stanley hand planes used for threads. When I bought the die set I thought I was getting a 1/4 - 24.
embarrassed several times.

Sorry, already have a full set of 1/4x20 taps, and a die to match. First, second and bottoming taps, and a die.

That's quite an offer, Dale, though I really don't see how you're going to reach me from all the way over there.

1/4-20 is hard to find????????????? One of the most common threads. Do you mean 12-20???

Stanley doesn't use that thread to my knowledge.

I think he meant 12-20 as I just sold him one last week. The correct size for the studs that hold the knob and tote on is #8 drill rod.
