My backdoor Chiopractor neighbor uses plywood to smoke cook with. I informed him this was stupid. He took offense and I left and went back home to have an intelligent conversation with my Goldfish.

Does he buy the plywood by the sheet or does he buy those smaller sizes pieces that some of the big box stores stock?

Very diplomatic Jerry. Perhaps bring a box of maple and cherry cutoffs?

If he invites you over for some smoked BBQ you might have to be "busy" that night. I can't imagine the taste would be very good with all the chemicals.

I'll save my cutoffs to build an urn for his ashes. They will probably have to call HASMAT instead of a Mortician.

Jerry, Florida's reputation for education is not the best. I wonder if it extends to IQ's. Too bad your location shows up on your post.

Sounds like his IQ is a combination of his hand, shoe and glove size.

Had to go back and re-read it. I first thought you meant his SMOKER was made of plywood. In comparison, smoking with plywood doesn't sound quite as bad - at least to one's immediate health.

At least he'll keep well.

The glue in plywood emits all sorts of nasty toxins when burned. The food you are smoking will absorb at least some of those toxins.

I've burned a pile of old plywood and it burns really fast and hot, but it also puts out some nasty looking smoke. Supposedly the reason it burns so fast and hot is because of the glue.

Wonder if he got the guy at Lowes to cut it up for him on the panel saw

What's a backdoor chiropractor?

Jerry Thompson

Backdoor Chiopractor? I'm not sure. He is from San Francisco!

One could have a lot of fun with that sentance.

No problems, one of his friends can adjust the poison away...

A friend gave my a nice pile of apricot. Which is an excellent wood for smoking. He said the meat tasted bitter. I pulled a piece out of his pit. He had not removed the bark. I pointed this out and asked him if he wanted to keep the wood. He said no.

I'd stay away from that fellow.

MDF makes everything taste like chicken though. You can't beat a 24 hour marinade in copper green.

There was a case a few years ago where a man that worked in a pressure treating plant in Wis. was taking scrap home to heat his house and killed his whole family. Should have known, but didn't.

Sometimes its not stupid, its lack of information. Maybe you can find out what chemicals are in plywood and take him a copy. If he is a Chiropractor he had to make it through 7 years of school, so he must have a trainable mind. If not for him for his family who are just victims.

I burn up to 6 cords of seasoned hardwood each winter in my up-to-code wood burning furnace.
But I have never put one scrap of plywood in it. YUK!!
Only wood that ever goes into my Weber smoker is apple.
