I posted this wood as a gloat a few months ago, asking for help with wood ID. The consensus was Eastern Red Cedar and it certainly smells like that. You warned me it would crack and it will turn brown, but it's pretty while it lasts. There were no cracks when I started, but several by the time I finished. ERC, Gloss WOP, 5-1/2" x 3-1/4" x 3/16". C&C appreciated.

Yep. red cedar can be a challenge. The form in the lower 80 looks great, but goes vertical just below the natural edge. If the curve could have been continued everything would be perfect. Great job for on fit and finished. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to some more.

Thats a nice little bowl. I turn red cedar from time to time and have found that a spray bottle of water can help keep the piece moist and stop the cracking while turning. Another big + is to have razor sharp tools, not just because you should anyway, but the cutting of the super sharp tool will generate less heat (which can and does contribute to cracking).

Keep 'em coming!

Not the typical shape, but I like it. Don,t see many cedar NE bowls.

Looks nice. I like the colors and the smell of cedar. It is one of my favorite woods to turn so far.
