Got an OLD Rockwell 1" X 42" strip sander for $15 years ago. The wheels at the rear that the back of the belt rides on started shedding their outer layer. Any ideas for replacements? This is a nice HD model compared to what you can buy now, and I would like to keep it for sharpening.

I considered skate board wheels, but suspect that the rounded surface would cause tracking difficulties. The current wheels are flat surfaced, with ball bearings.

Take a look on ebay - search for "Rockwell Delta". There is a vendor that regularly advertises replacement parts for the old model 1 X 42 Rockwell/Delta strip sanders. The wheels are especially prone to deterioration. I have an old one that I've replaced the wheels on. It's a great tool and worth repairing.

To update: there's a listing for a set of idler wheels for this sander on ebay now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELTA-ROCKWELL-1-BELT-SANDER-GRINDER-IDLER-WHEELS-/150858726289?pt=Sanders_Sandblasters&hash=item231fe17b91 -$40 plus shipping. The vendor also has other replacement wheels for the sander.
