I haven't posted anything in quite a while but have been working on some platters recently. This was from a birch crotch that I wanted to leave with wings and decided to embellish with some carving, some Dremel work and several layers of dye. It is about 15" long x 12" wide and 1/ 1/2" deep. C&C are welcome.

Love everything about it Marc! Cool overall form, great carving (I like how the direction of the carved lines gives the piece a sense of motion) and the dye really makes the feather pop! Very nice! Thanks for sharing!

Wow! That's one fine piece right there! Love the carving/texturing and the effect of one beside the other. The blue is fine but this thing would have looked good in any color. Really cool!

The is an awesome job. I think I went cross eyed the way I was drawn from one aspect to another. The colors and textures work so well together. Thanks for making my day with view such a fine piece of art.

Dang Marc...Stay away more often!!! I'm pulling your leg...that is beautiful! Great texture, color mix in the bowl is well worth a "How'd ya do that?" Dye work really keeps the eye moving. Big high 5!

Marc, When I first opened the thread the pictures looked like the platter had lightening running across it! It is just beautiful in many ways, I think you got all of it when you swung and hit this one out of the park!
Gives me the itch to do a cool platter,
Jeff

Funny thing, at first I didn't like it. That lasted about 1/2 second. Then it got interesting. It gets more interesting every time I look. Well done, excellent piece.

Thank you all for the very kind comments. I really like crotch wood in birch and blue is my favorite color. I lightly applied an orange/red dye over it in the textured and carved areas.

Marc, I keep coming back to look at this, so I figure I should comment. I don't usually care for these crotch pieces, but your carving, texturing and dying really make this one work. Beautiful job !!!!

This has the feel of an old a bronze dish full of water. It's a great effect. Not immediately apparent that it is a piece of wood!

Very cool Marc! The texture and dye on the rim looks great, but it's the center portion that really caught my eye. Definitely looks like there's a storm going on! Fabulous!

The center is spectacular and the outside isn't half bad either! Great work!

Thanks for the positive comments. It is fun to find shapes or patterns in wood that remind me of something else. My wife says it reminds her of a fish, but I see the water and weather too.
