Thanks Chuck, will give that a try. Biggest problem is I dont have reader, so I can't be sure that what I generate is "readable". Anyone one out there have a reader I can send the code to in a cdr file and verify it works. Also I received this from Corel support on inseriting QR, Data MAtrix and other codes into corel X5, just sharing the info for those who also may need it.

Do you plan to at least do a test run to make sure the tags can be read by the scanner? I ask because I kind of doubt the mark will have enough contrast to be readable.

HI Greg,

I regularly engrave QR barcodes onto Stainless Steel plates, using the CO2 + paste method and they read no problem. I use an iPhone app, RL Classic which I believe was free to check and read them and it works like a charm. As for generating the codes I wouldn't know as they send the artwork to me ready to engrave.

dont mix up qr codes with datamatrix, not the same thing, different levels of error checking can be put into datamatrix and there's lots of rules on cell sizes and the like.
