View Full Version : Grizzly G1023RLX 6" Dust Port Anyone???

So I got a cyclone a short while back, and its time to a better ductwork situation going. Right now it looks like a spider web with too many reducers and such.

My question is has anyone converted their 1023rlx Grizzly 4" dust port into a 6" ?? Sounds simple for those without a 1023rlx, but the blade shroud that comes with a 1023rlx makes it much more difficult.

Pictures to come when I get home tonight.

Hi Adrian,
Is it necessary to enlarge the port to 6" on this one? I think it has a close capture hood under the blade that should reduce the CFM requirement?

Yes, it has the blade shroud, but a 2" hose feeds it. I wish it had a bigger hose, as the 2" really hurts it. Then the 2" makes the cabinet hole around 2" or slighly less. So in both cases the air flow could be stronger.

Also Id like to do away with another 6" to 4" adapter.

I have a 2012 1023RL with a 4" dust duct fitting and with a 2" blade shroud hose that also comes to the 4" dust duct fitting. Here are a couple of photos of what I did to retain the 2" shroud outlet while expanding the TS dust port to ~6" equivalent cross-sectional area.

Here is the TS dust outlet 'as built' by Grizzly. The oval shape is black magic marker I used to mark the outline of an HVAC fitting I bought to mate up there (see 3rd pic).

Here's a close up of the same area of the TS after I had enlarged the dust port opening while retaining TS cabinet material around the 2" shroud duct.

Lastly, here's a photo of the TS with a homemade fitting ... combination of a 6" HVAC register duct mounted in a 3/4" thick piece of plywood that I then screwed to the cabinet base.

Tom, great job!! And thanks for the pics.

Did you see an improvement? Was it worth the mod? Did it help the blade shroud or just the cabinet suction?

Have you considered splitting your 6" hose for the tablesaw.
One expert says it is best to run 5" (or 4" ) to the bottom and then run a 4" hose in the blade guard .
I have a Shark Guard with a 4" port and a 5" pipe running to the bottom.
The results are pretty incredible, especially since this is just a contractors saw not originally designed for DC.

A lot of dust comes off the blade.. I think it's worthwhile to try to catch it there for maximum air quality.
Good luck

Adrian ... Unable to comment on seeing an improvement because I enlarged the dust collector port immediately after getting my 1023RL so no experience on dust collection before the modification. I have a 1-1/2 hp Jet DC 1100-C canister dust collector ~35' away from the TS with all 6" PVC ducting inbetween ... and ... the TS sawdust is sucked out of the base cabinet very nicely. There is some sawdust that deposits on the TS top in vicinity of the blade. I do not have an overblade dust collector and don't plan to do that either ... not an issue for me. Overall, I am satisfied with my TS dust collection set up. Have had the TS for six months. If starting over, I would do my mod again ... the same way.

If interested, here's the rest of my dust collection set up completed in March 2012. http://www.forums.woodnet.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=5844553&page=97&view=collapsed&sb=5&o= (http://www.forums.woodnet.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB8&Number=5844553&Forum=f8,f2,f11,f12,f15,f3&Words=&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Main=5844553&Search=true&where=bodysub&Name=40523&daterange=1&newerval=1&newertype=y&olderval=&oldertype=&bodyprev=#Post5844553)

Great idea for dust, has anyone considered attaching/chaning the 2 inch dust hose to 4 inch on the inside of the cabinet? Great photos.
