Ok after lurking in the background for a year I have decided to post a photo of a work I have done called Recovered Ruins 1. This is a cherry burl that I have turned and has been in a few shows. I have decided to keep this piece.
Yes C & C are welcome. If all goes well I might post again.

Geez Ron! You really didn't want to blow out the shavings did you? :) Looks really cool with that natural edge surrounding the voids.

Are you going to SWAT this year?

Ron, You are a man with the same likes as me and many others! The turning of burls with big voids is a great challenge to any turner and it looks as though you have figured out the method to the madness!

Keep em coming!

Nice piece and a definite 'pucker factor' to that void. One nice thing about voids like that, you get to see whats happening on the inside!
I would not normally like the form of the top, but with all thats going on on this piece of timber, it's more than justified.

That is very good, an interesting piece. I think you should go ahead and do a couple more and keep us posted.:D

Very cool piece. It reminds me of the mummy's face in the Brendan Fraser flick The Mummy when his (the mummy's) face was being "re-fleshed"...but only part way there.

Thanks for all the kind words. I do love negative space pieces and have turned many. When turning at a higher speed you can see the cutting tool and yes it is self cleaning. Scott I will not be going to SWAT this year. Have heard many great things about swat but just got back from San Jose. Again thanks for the comments. Will have more post soon.

Great looking turning!! I bet you were nervous as all get out turning it for fear of it falling apart.

Please do post more!
