I've built a little table out of oak and stained it with oil base stain and put a coat of 1and a half pound cut of shellac to seal it and I want to put a water base glaze on and then an oil base poly over that for a finish . Is this going to be alright to do as far as compatibility of the water base glaze and the oil base poly?

why not use a varnish (ie waterlox) in place of the poly. poly is for floors.

I agree. Poly is, IMHO, plastic looking. Waterlox is a great finish.

Yes, your finishing schedule is fine. But, I too suggest that a non-poly varnish will give you a nicer finish. Use a varnish like Pratt&Lambert 38 or Sherwin Williams Varnish.
