This is from another blank from John Kent and boy is it full of color!
I hadn't planned on coring this one, but when I was getting ready to hollow the inside, I just couldn't turn all of that pretty wood into shavings.
It looks like spalted ambrosia red gum, if that's possible. The pics don't do justice to these pieces.
The big one is just under 8" x 2 1/2" or so and the smaller is about 5" x 1 1/2" or so. Finish is walnut oil followed by Mahoney's oil wax.
Thanks again John for some fabulous wood!

Kathy, once again, terrific form. It sure looks like the effort was worth it to core. That wood is pretty special!

Great wood! I had to google it to find its range. Apparently I won't be stumbling across it! Pretty bowls Kathy!

Kathy,

You get some of the most awesome wood. That stuff is incredible. The form of the bowls is wonderful as well.

Great job! I think I'm in agreement with Baxter that I won't find this in our woods either!:(

Nice bowls and some very pretty wood. Looks like the burdens of moderating are not keeping you away from the lathe!

Thanks everyone!
Hard not to turn something nice with wood like that. I forgot to mention in the post, that not only is it beautiful wood, it really was a joy to turn and it was the easiest piece of wood that I've cored so far.
