I dedicate this vase to the occasion of the ascension of Kathy Marshall to moderator. Yahoo! Seriously, I visited Kathy several months ago and she gave me this chunk of Jacaranda. I rough turned it then, but I thought the wood looked pretty plain so I lost interest in it and went back to other things. Recently I finish-turned it and realized it had quite a bit going on. I added the collar and handles (dyed maple) to jazz it up a bit, as well as to get rid of a large crack in the original top. The handles are carved, something I've been trying my hand at more lately. The hardest part was mating the handles to the body. It is 15"x11" (not including the handles) Enjoy!

Wow! Beautiful piece Barry! The form looks great as does the dark contrast of the collar, base and handles (great color choice on the dye). Excellent job carving the handles too.
You certainly made more of that chunk of Jacaranda than I could have.

Very imaginative and impressive upgrade. I like the contrast and appropriate color of the dye job too.

All in all, a very nice piece. I like those scrolls on the handle. Did you carve those by hand? Or rotary?
