For those of us Vets who live in Virginia, quit before 20, and who are not labeled as disabled by the VA....

The perfect use-case scenario is Lowe's. They have always told me that they offer the 10% military discount to all vets, not just retired, active duty, and disabled. But I don't always remember to take a copy of my DD-214 to prove it (even through most cashiers are nice enough to give it to me anyway). This card is made for just such occasions.

New veterans ID card available in Virginia

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Veterans Services have joined as partners to offer a veterans ID card to U.S. military veterans throughout the state.

While retired military and veterans with a disability rating from Veterans Affairs are issued ID cards, other veterans had no way to show veteran status other than with a DD-214, an official discharge document.

The new veterans ID card will enable veterans to easily show veteran status to receive discounts from Virginia restaurants and retailers that offer discounts and other special promotions to veterans and military.

Veterans may begin applying for the card on May 30 through these DMV service outlets:
• DMV customer service centers
• DMV 2 Go mobile offices
• www.dmvNOW.com (http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dmvNOW.com&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNELqzvhEXqC2zQ7H8gbLeFXhlqZsg)
• By U.S. mail: P.O. Box 27412, Richmond, VA 23269-0001
• Fax: (804) 367-1112

Applicants must have a valid Virginia driver’s license or identification card, and a copy of a DD-214 indicating any discharge status other than dishonorable. There is a $10 one-time cost for the card.
Virginia Veterans ID cards never expire. Applicants will receive their new Virginia Veterans ID card in the mail within
a week.
