Very cool and unique! Is it carved on? Could you explain what's going on there with the shape?

Another great one Lionel! As always very unique. I can't figure out how this one was done.

Lionel,
I know you are referring to the wood itself but "Cankered" is such an awful sounding name for such an imaginative turning. I'm assuming you cut through and steam bent the joined side but without seeing the bottom I have no idea how you handled that difficult transition. In any event, just the imagination required to do what you did deserves accolades, let alone the technical difficulty of pulling it off. Well done. Please find a new name.

Lionel; Everything you post is interesting and most of it makes me think "how did he do that". My first thought on the "how" was that the walls were turned thick and the joint was carved from the extra wood. Faust's thought of steam bending makes sense also.
This is a great example of "thinking outside of the box".

@ all:
1/ turned on two axis
2/ one edge is removed with router (see previous posts)
3/ hollowing (classic) on a third axe
4/ the second edge is carved to simulate the overlapping
5/ the bottom dowel is removed
6/ sanding by hand
I hope this will help

@ Faust:
Awfull...I assume it, one will perhaps christen this a "pock marked pot"
would sound better, but it's awful likewise...
Don't know what to say...:(

Great Piece Lionel. I hope you took the name thing in the spirit it was intended. Actually, after reading how you did it, I am even more in awe. How about "Making Beauty from Wood With a Slight Skin Condition"? I guess that doesn't really flow.
