I originally posted this piece apx 4 weeks back before I applied the finish.
well now it's done, finish is a spray lacquer, Stands 8"h x 5 7/8"w
At the time that I originally posted this piece the overall opinion was to leave it natural, now I'm not so sure that was the right decision, my next pieces made from this burl will be colored.

Very nice piece John. I like the form. I always like the natural edge "Missing section" pieces.

I think it looks splendid left natural.

John, I would have zero regrets for not having colored this piece. Its beautifully done and finished. Color is a neat diversion, but wood like this can stand on it's own rights any day and have universal appeal.

John, I love burl - particularly maple burl, and natural is always good. However, I also think they look spectacular dyed. Either way - it is a winner.

I am a big fan of natural. The open windows really must have made you take extra care on the inside with all the visability. You should have no regrets on this one.

Hollow forms do not get much better than this. And a hearty pat on the back for resting the urge to dye it.

That's honestly some of the strangest looking coloration in maple burl I've seen. I don't think leaving it natural was a mistake. I agree the form is beautiful and I love the void/ natural edge.

I love the form! At 8" tall I think it is beautiful as it is. If it were a couple of feet tall then maybe some light tint blends would break up the "evenness" of it and give it more character. IMHO, of course.

The form is wonderful and the natural look works well. I tend to be a fan of color, but this piece does not need it.

lovely..if pic 2 is more like what the form looks like colorwise, then I like it as is. But do color the next one & let us see that too!!!
