This small vase has been on going for about a month, more procrastination than difficult. :) Its supposed to be Redgum :confused: it came with a bunch of other bits and pieces. All I can figure is that its most likely a Eucalypt of some sort and seeing we have over 300 species its anybodies guess.
6.5"x4.5" finished with DO and a light buffing

Whatever it is, it certainly lent itself to a nice carved vase! Given the size, the carving is very impressive - good detail.

I agree...this is some very nice work Neil. Amazing how the grain really seems to be accentuated by the fluting. Just reinforces what Wally D has been showing us on his beaded pieces and how the grain shows thru much better than most of us would expect.
I can see why this piece took some time, the finish looks great too!

Your carving skill really compliments a very nice piece of wood. Great choice of using spiral fluting.
