Hi all,
I have a Motorola Atrix and Samsung Galaxy 2 and I wanted to laser etch something onto the back. Does anyone know if it is safe to do so?

Thanks in advance.

I've got an Atrix... haven't lasered it, but it seems possible. The back is PC, which may produce some nasty gasses but shouldn't hurt your machine. (Searching the forums, PC seems to be a topic of some debate, but I think the consensus trends toward it being safe to cut.)

There's a plated metallic layer that gives the faux-carbon fiber look under the black paint... it's probably so thin that it will vaporize right off, but who knows. Try it! Post pics! I've always hated this faux-cf... maybe I'll etch mine as well.

I didn't etch my Atrix yet but i did etch the Samsung Galaxy 2 back cover. You can check out the results at my Flickr Page (http://www.flickr.com/photos/59046139@N07/sets/72157630021575849/)

That's a really interesting texture - was it a surprise or part of the plan?

It was a surprise for me. The etching was done with image dithering. That could be the reason for the texture.
