This is the second in what I'm calling my Samurai series. Basically, a hard edged hollow form topped with a fairly distinctive finial shape wrapped in hemp. Going for an Asian sort of feel. First one was a flatter Eucalyptus burl posted on this site several months ago. This one is, I believe, redwood burl with African blackwood topper. Measurements are 6 3/4" tall x 4" wide. Finish is Antique Oil and beall buff with ren wax at the end. C+C always appreciated.

VERY nicely done, Bob............I like the finial you have on this series, and this wood is beautifully figured.........you keep raising the bar! Well conceived and executed!

Nice piece Bob. That topper suits that form very well.

Well, you got the "Asian feel" you wanted! I really like the "hard edge" high shoulder on this. Redwood burl is fantastic stuff if you can find it. Somehow, in these pics the burl seems to be slightly blurred and does not read sharply. Maybe I just need better glasses!

Thanks, all, for the comments. David, you are correct, my photo skills definitely need some work. Will add it to the list...

Very nice work Bob! I really like the unique finial and how it creates the theme! The turning really grabs your attention!

Bob,
Wonderful variation to the conventional shape. The sharp edge shoulder fits well with the "Darker Side" appearance you've created with the shape of the finial. It looks like you threaded the lid. We don't see much of that and it makes the project more special.
