I have been asked to build a diplay case for a saddle. The idea is to have a base with 4 vertical posts that are dadoed to accept glass panels. A wood frame on top would also contain a glass insert. What would be my options for attaching the posts to the base. I am thinking they would be 2x2.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

Fred.

You maybe should post a sketch of what you want the cabinet to look like. For instance, does the base have a larger footprint than the glassed-in area? That would suggest a mortise-and-tenon on the bottom end of each post. Or another way to make the cabinet would have the posts go all the way to the floor, being the legs too.

For a display cabinet with corner posts, I'd fit glass with 1/16 tolerance into a rabbit and then pin nail wood stops to hold in place. This way, your case could have the appearance of glass fitted into a groove in the posts, but still be easily replaceable in the future if needed.
