I would like to have the O.D. of the unthreaded portion of a schedule 80 steel pipe nipple (threaded one end) turned down from the standard 1.9" to approx. 1.8". The length of the nipple is 4.0", so the area that would need to be reduced in diameter would be about 3.25" long (the threaded portion is 0.75" long).

Are there any sites where I can find someone willing to do that kind of work?

Anyone here?

Phil, there are probably dozens of mom & pop machine shops in your area that could do it for you. It is a simple matter of turning it between centers with a drive dog. It shouldn’t take more that 15 minutes to do.

I would get a longer nipple, mount in a three jaw chuck, and then turn to desired diameter. Then using a parting tool cut it free. If there is a technical school near you, one of the students could probably do it as a "live project.
