I can't seem to find "real" wood screws anywhere - you know, the kind where the shank is the size it is supposed to be. The screws at various local hardware stores all have shanks that are about 3/64" too small (they're actually smaller than the thread major diameter)

Does Fastenal carry the larger shank variety? Anybody know of a place in Denver I can buy smallish (<100) quantities? Do the ones from Mcfeely's have the right size shank?

Thanks in advance!

You want slotted heads too? I'll the modern "fake" screws any day. The reduced shank shorter thread length allows the wood to be pulled together. The only folks I know using "real" woodscrews are in antique restoration.

Do you want the "old school" thick shaft because you have been breaking them off or for other reasons. If it is from breaking them better quality will remedy that.
