I'm making a tray for a jewelry box. The dividers in the box ar about 1.5" high, either 7" or 3" long and .25" thick. I know that where the dividers intersect that you cut slots half way through so that the two pieces fit together at the same height. My question is, how do you cut these two slots? It seems to dangerous to do on the router table. Is this where I should part with my power tool junky ways and use a hand saw? (I'm affraid to admit that I don't even have one) Or is it easier to just glue the pieces where they meet? Thanks in advance.

Lay out the slots in a wide piece of wood, cut them with your table saw or router, then rip the wider piece of wood to create the thinner pieces you need.
