This was my project for today after cutting up another batch of blanks. I wanted to turn a large bowl, but with the heat and almost non existant humidity here, I needed to be able to turn it quickly before it dried and cracked into oblivion, so I chose a large thin blank. Surprisingly, cracks were not a problem and I could have gone with a thicker blank, but I like how this one turned out.
I've noticed that the cutoffs in the scrap pile have turned red and I'm wondering if carob is like sumac in turning red. This one may do a little sunbathing once it's dry.
11" x 2" with a coat of BLO.

Dang, that's pretty Kathy, the grain and color remind me of Siberian Elm, very dramatic figure. Looks like you have lots of it too.

Great looking bowl and what great grain structure to boot, you'd have to be happy with this one.

Very pretty bowl! Love the grain and I can see some of the red coloring you mentioned. If anything changes with exposure to sunlight - please post a photo or two if you get the chance!

Nice work Kathy! The carob I have turned was quite a bit more red that that, so maybe your right, or maybe just the difference in trees....
