Birch Hollow Form with Candy Colors. Came from my yard, a casualty of the Halloween Storm of 2011. Turned green thin and dried in a week. Airbrushed a purple / blue / green fade over an opaque metal flake to translucent base fade. Finished with EM6000 waterborne lacquer. My largest hollow form yet, about 10" (25cm) tall.

That's pretty neat there! I like the color combination, definitely different, but I'm liking it!

This is great! I have been thinking about trying a rainbow color fade but I've been too "chicken" to actually commit a piece to it. This might just be the inspiration I needed. Nice form too!

Neat colors Eric. Makes me want an airbrush.:) I was visiting my sister in Avon during that storm. What a mess! If I had only taken my chainsaw!;)

Thanks everyone.

David, I've done several rainbow fades, they are not that hard to do. Just practice on some paper first, once you get the first three colors working, the rest come naturally. I almost did this as a rainbow, but stopped where I did to keep some clear wood.

Eric, I like what you did with the colors and metal flake - nice form, too! I just turned a green maple vase to finish in one setting and was surprised at how well it did. I think endgrain makes a big difference in the final result.

Eric looks like you're over the hump on hollow forms. Coloring and finish are top notch. Another one well done!

I have a very similar form I finished natural and I might just revisit it with some color.

I tried two green hollow forms and both worked out well, the other one is going the natural look and the finish is curing, hope to get pics in a few days. Both had well centered pith and were quite round which kept them stable in shape as they dried. The other one is pear.
