View Full Version : New Shop Floor - PT OJ's?

Planning on building my new shop this summer, will be a 32x48 detached building. The frame will be set on oversized concrete piers, and I had originally planned on a 2x12 PT floor system. I want to have my DC lines run below the wooden floor, so now I'm thinking an open joist system would allow plenty of room for all my wiring and DC needs.

Does anyone know if Pressure Treated Open Joists are available in Maine? If not, what would be the closest location to find such a product?

Thanks!

I would contact a local truss manufacturer and see if they would build them with PT lumber. I have never seen them as a stock item.

I assume your pier construction is similar to crawl space but with lots of ventilation. Any particular need for PT for the floor system?

Unless your're in a flood zone, have excessive wood eating bug problems, really short piers or local code calls for it on open foundations, there shouldn't be a need for PT.

Use PT sills (pier caps) to isolate the floor system from the concrete.

But anyway, as Chris says, maybe the local guys will do it for you.

Thanks, going to check with my lumberyard tomm to see what my options are.
