A friend and myself were disussing possibly building an infill plane this next year. So we started to gather some information. I have seen some posts here on the Creek in the past.

So in keeping with a post from Mark Buchanan back on April 29, 2010 "Every thing you ever wanted to know about Molding planes but were afraid to ask" (see Neanderthal Wisdom/FAQs) I would like to start the same, but for "Infill Planes". I am hoping to find links to materials (where to buy, etc), building steps, tuning, do's and don'ts, ideas, etc.

My intention is to build a good data base on this thread, then include my own findings then hopefully have it archived for all in the future in the Neanderthal Wisdom/FAQs.

Thanks,

Hoss

Do you want to build a kit or do you want to do it from scratch with bar stock?

Some of the best info I found was Jim Yehle's http://user.xmission.com/~jry/ww/tools/a13/a13.html (http://user.xmission.com/%7Ejry/ww/tools/a13/a13.html)

and this http://www.allwoodwork.com/article/woodwork/dovetailhandplane.htm

and there's this from Cameron Miller http://www.handplane.com/48/basic-tools-for-metal-plane-making-part-i/

Richard, I am currently building a #4 size infill with a 50 degree bed angle. The body has a solid bed with an adjustable mouth and a 1/4" A2 iron. I am building this plane from bar stock and have not taken any pictures as yet but will try to next week. I am leaving tonight for an endurance cycling event in the mountains and will not be back until next Tues. Will try to post then.

I've described builds of various metallic planes (mitre, shoulder, smoother) on by blog http://zkprojectnotebook.wordpress.com/, look in the plane categories.
