I need several wide straight alongee carving chisels 1 1/4", 1 3/8", 1 5/8", 1 3/4", 1 7/8", and 2". I can find them in increments of 1/8" up to 1 1/2", but over 1 1/2" they are pretty scarce. I can't even find a 1 3/4" much less a 1 5/8" or 1 7/8". I have found several old turning skews that I can grind to the correct shape and rehandle to make them manageable length. I know carving chisels are ususally sharpened and honed to a keener edge than turning chisels so will I be wasting my time with these high speed steel tools?

Thanks,

You could try asking the Ashley Iles company to make you some one-offs. They have done it for people in the past, and my Mom always used to say that 'there's no harm in asking'. Don't be mislead by the URL this is for carving tools too.

Not a problem. We stock Ashley iles up to 2" now. And are planning to go to 3" as soon as the factory to makes them.

Joel, I need 1 5/8", 1 3/4" and 1 7/8" sizes. You only have 1 1/2" and 2" in your catalog. Can you I special order other sizes?

Joel, How'd you guess? I'd appreciate any help you can provide. I can replicate the larger sizes by using two chisels, but its very time consuming and takes a lot more skill to make the a trench made by two chisels appear as seamless as one made by one. Thanks
