hi has anyone got any ideas/plans for a bench top router table? the reason being i am really stuck for room in my little workshop,i can store it ok but not a normal sized router table. ive just finished fitting a new kitchen at home and have some 40m/m thick counter top left which i thought would do for the table, providing flatness and stability, any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks in anticipation,

Hey Alan,

John Miliunas had a router table that could very easily be used as a benchtop router table. The table comes with a bench top table with legs. The legs could be removed and used as a bench top table. It is NOT the best table in the world. However, it does do small work quite well. (I have the exact same table).

I made a real simple portable one a while ago. Bottom and three sides were 3/4" plywood. Top was just a piece of MDF with some angle iron screwed to it to keep it from sagging. Front was a piece of 1/4" ply in a frame that folded down for access. I had a 4" dust port on the back. I made it the size that fit into a space under my bench. I built a simple fence with a DC port for a shop vac. It really worked great.

Eventually, I realized that even in my small shop, I needed an assembly table. My ratty bench top and TS top just weren't cutting it. So, when I made the assembly table, I sunk a router plate into it. Now I have a huge router table. Before moving to a larger shop, it used to be infeed/outfeed for the TS, assembly table, storage underneath, a small vice for handtool work, and a mobile parts cart. In the small shop, it came into play on just about every step. Now, I've put drawers in it and it has become a more standard (although largish) router table.

Try looking up the "Router Workshop" to get their web site address.
This is a TV show in the states and they have a very nice benchtop router table. Or at least one that you can modify to suit the height that you may need.
That show was the first one that came to mind.
Best regards
Daniel :)

Alan, I wouldn't quite call mine a bench top, but I added fold up legs to a woodpeckers top, and it stores quite nicely.
