I'm drawing up plans for a cradle for my new grandson (stealth gloat:). I was planning to size it at ~ 18 "L x 36" W since this seems to be std. mattress dimensions. How deep should the sides be? What about the width of the spacing between the slats?

Thanks,

Dave

one inch spacing between the upright which is two inch wide
about 12 inches from the mattress to the top of the cradle side

In this cradle the sides are 15" high and the distance between spindles is just under 2". The cradle is walnut with birdseye maple end panels and curly maple spindles.232146

There are new safety standards for cribs. Go to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (google: cpsc, cribs) and you will find all the info you want.
