I've spent a good bit of time lately finishing up two trophies for a local country club to use in a golf tournament. This is one of the two. It is 14" in dia by 12" high. Finish is waterlox so that they may be used to serve food with a small base that I'm including with each trophy. I used waterlox because the customer wanted a high gloss finish that was food save. The bowl is silver maple and the base is big leaf maple. Not sure if I want to do anything like this again, it has been a pain trying to please everyone on this project. I would much prefer to turn what I want and let them buy it in place of trying to turn something to please.

Jack, is this, and the other, the end result of the design thread you started a while back? I like the result, and the color difference between the silver maple and the BLM adds a nice contrast.

I am with you on commission work - it is much more time consuming and seems to stiff one's creativity.

Thanks for all the kind words. John this is the finish product from the design post I had a while back. It had a 12" bowl, but they wanted a larger bowl and no board on the bottom. I then turned the one in this post and thought that it would be what they wanted but when I took it to let them see they wanted the base to be able to come off and put a short base on the tenon so that it can be used as a bowl in the home if desired. I really don't like this part of the design since it doesn't allow me to have the base attached firmly so I'm somewhat worried that they will come apart before one wants them to.
