A rarity, actually finishing something I start!

This is was intended as another skill builder. I was doodling one day and my daughter looked over my shoulder and asked if I could make that for her. The doodle was of interlocking circles. I have gotten better cutting curves on the band-saw as this box is nothing but curve.

The box is Cherry and is flocked in blue. I thought about small black cylindrical knobs but that seemed too serious for a 16 year old. I managed to make some knobs by mangling brass wire from the hardware store. Seems to suit her tastes.

The drawers are bottom heavy so they stand up when removed from the box. Wish I could say I had that planned!

thanks for looking.

Neat! I really like the pulls too! Any chance you could post a brief step by step?

Very nice design! What is the W x L x H of the curved framework?

Hi David, That is a great design. I really like it. The fact that you didn't use store bought hardware is a big plus. Nice touch useing a different shape for each drawer.

David, Great Design. Those BS boxes can be quite nerve racking. I'm sure your daughter will cherish it for a long time.

Steve,

It's approximately 3.5" tall, 9.5" long, and 4" deep.

Nice "doodle" David. I'm not a normally a bandsaw box type of guy, but that is really nice.

Very, very creative, David! I've seen a number of BS boxes and even made a couple, but that appears to be very original! :) I LIKE it! Bet your daughter does, too! Well done.:)

I'll think about it. I should warn you, steps 5 through 47 involve hand sanding!

All the sanding on this box was done by hand due to the small radius of the circles. I did rediscover the sanding stick on this project. Making several in different widths and lengths made things much easier.

you did a great sanding job on all those curves. What did you use to do that?

quite nice! How long did it take to make? what width blade on the bs did you use.

Lou,

Hard to say how long it took because I did it in spurts. The only really time consuming part is the sanding. That took about an hour per drawer. After the box was done, it took a couple of weeks for me to get up the courage to put on the handles!

I'm using a 3/16" blade. I used a stone to round off the back corners of the blade and that does improve the cutting radius abit.
