Well, been away a long while making lots of bowls and such to raise funds for an upcoming trip to Panama. But, I thought I'd throw this out for fun. A mahogany almond is what I'm gonna call this thing. There's someone on here that gets all the credit - sorry, I do not know who you are. But when I saw your odd-shaped turning, I had to give it a shot. Makes for a weird shape to turn and I just wished I'd thrown a couple ball bearings inside it so it could at least be a super-sized rattle!

So, here's my almond, a first attempt, made from african mahogany. It has some carving for embellishment and walnut stain, spray lacquer and buffed. I'll make a little three-legged stand for it later.

The method is called "Lost Wood", that traces is origin back a few years. http://www.ovwg.org/New-OVWG-Site/Techniques/Lost%20Wood%20Turning%20Process.htm

Of late, Art Liestman and Joe Landon have been doing quite a bit of work with the technique.

Love the almond. The texture and color are spot on.

I love almonds, and my mouth watered when I looked at this!! That is the true test - and, you passed with flying colors.

Thanks everyone. Sorry I forgot the size - it's about 7" long by 3 7/8" on the wide side, and 2 3/4" on the narrower side width. And thanks, Dale, those are the guys I was referring to...I am thankful for how they (and all of you) inspire!
