I know there is a name for this kind of device, but for the life of me cant remember what it is. Furthermore, my dad bought this but could tell me little about who makes it. Anyone got the info Im looking for?

That appears to be the Woodline phenolic Longworth chuck. Nice gift!! They are not cheap.

Nice score!!! However...keep it low and slow. Had more than one bowl pop off Cole jaws on the same lathe!

Me too! I think Cole says the speed should be kept under 600 rpm, and even within those limits bowls will still 'missle' occasionally. When I can, I engage a padded block held in place by the free end, just in case.

Those Longworth jaws look like they'd save a lot of time. Changing the rubber tips/jaws on a Cole is a pain in the backside.

Chris - Congrats! Your Dad has good taste when it comes to lathe accessories! As mentioned, be sure to keep the speed down when using the chuck!

Congrats on the Longworth, you will enjoy it. I have one I made and as others have said low, slow and lite cuts. You don't get as much grip with this as you do with cole jaws but it does work well.
