I see that most people use CorelDraw with LaserWorks. Has anyone used the latest version of Illustrator, or does anyone know if it can work in conjunction with LaserWorks.
It has AI as onet of the supported files but when we try to import it into LaserWorks it says that there is no data. However we are able to open an Illustrator version 8 file.
Any ideas?

Save as/Export as an Ai8

Only problem with exporting to an AI8 file is that you lose some of the functions of CS5, like the clipping asks etc. WOuld you say that CorelDraw is more the way to go with Laserworks than Illustrator.

Clipping masks are unlikely to drop into RDCAM and work as intended.

Simplify what you send it, if it is to be rastered convert your vector work to raster and dither it before sending it to RDCAM. If it is vectors, just send it a file with the vectors. They can be huge and multiple, but forget clipping, filled vectors hiding those behind it etc. Just feed it what you want the machine to do, treat it as a dumb 2 axis machine.
