Wonder what shipping costs would be to Atlanta? ;)

It might be cheaper to ship Atlanta. :>

I've love to see a picture of the beast.

I hate to say it, but the USPS would just mangle that thing, stuffing it into my mailbox, anyway.

Shame, huh ?

I e-mailed the guy, asking for pics. No answer yet. Wonder what 815# of steel is worth. Maybe I could quit my night job of stripping copper wire from Little League fields.:D

I was thinking about stealing a manhole cover to use as a top for my next router table. Heck, if they can take the weight of a loaded semi trailer, should b able to take a few bits of 4/4 lumber without sagging. And they already have the hole in the center, so that part is done. Perhaps it can be mounted over a 55 gal barrel to act as both a stand and chip collection? If I get it blanchard ground they can both flatten it and take off that nasty "Property of Municipal Sewer Dept." tag, so two birds there. Should pretty much reduce the vibration? I'm looking for one of those really BIG manhole covers, like a 40"-50" diameter. I pretty much have one picked out, I just need to get the boom installed on my truck to lift it and build a gantry in my shop to place it. Maybe I can replace the cover with one made of IPE so no vehicles are damaged? I don;t want to create a public nuisance.....

I like your idea but I'm glad you added this part. Leaving a 40"-50" vacancy would make a heck of a pothole!

Accounting for a cutout, around 790lbs. Just for the top.

You sure can! I'm pretty sure the CL add in the OP is just one of those road plates they put down to fill a void during construction. I feel the NYC subway manhole cover would just take that concept a step further!

50 cent for a pound as is, what is the scrap price for steel ? what would this cost if you pick it up at the steel mill ?
