Here is a rocking chair for my great nephew, born 6 months ago. It's a little big for him now, but I'm sure he will out grow it soon enough.

The wood is white oak I got from my Dad about 20 years ago.

The chair is about 2/3 the size of an adult chair.

The back legs and the back seat slats are steam bent.

I placed a soda can next to the chair to give you an idea on it's size. I would have used the dog, but he's not much taller than the can.

Thanks for looking,

Bill

Bill, some ladderback dining chairs (similar to your rocking chair) are on my bucket list. Beautiful!

Looks like a beautifully made and sturdy chair that should last a few generations and then some! Nice work indeed!

Jason,
I would guess I have 25 - 30 hours into it. I think i could work faster if I had to, but why hurry when you are having a good time?

Bill,

I showed my wife the picture. Now I need to make a pair of adult-sized ladderback rockers. Any thoughts on where I can get plans?

Well done Bill. Always nice to see turned work off the normal path.

Bill, there are a lot of "disciplines" involved in building this chair! The ability to craft a well designed chair has been the hallmark of fine woodworking. Great job!

Extra Nice rocker! They (and any type chair) are a lot of work too. And then when your finished you have to deal with the seat! I did a couple of Danish cord ones a few years ago and got to make up several new curse words.
