View Full Version : Attempted save of a persimmon bowl

This bowl below came from a log that had been on the ground for some time. The bark had come off in the spot where the crack formed. The first layer of wood was really pretty dry so I guess this is why it formed this somewhat unusual (to my newbie self anyway) crack. It also warped too far out of round to correct so I sanded it as is and filled the crack with malachite. No further refinements were really possible without some wacky carving and shaping which I'm not up to yet so it had to be what it was.

Very nice bowl Jeremy...........great ogee curve.........just a tad thick for my personal tastes, but you did a fine job with this one.........looks like someone turned it who is an old pro! Good stuff!

I agree with Roger. The shape looks fine to me. It doesn't look like you had to settle for less due to the crack. Nice job on the inlay, too.

You have a nice curve and pretty wood Jeremy. The malachite looks good too!

I would call that a great save. Nice job and the inlace makes for an excellent accent.

Nice work Jeremy! I think a black/brown fill on the crack would have been better...IMHO...the green draws your eye to the crack. The ogee is right on and the finish doesn't look like plastic. Overall...high 5!
