I bought some Pecan logs over the weekend and just had to make something from it. For 100.00 I got enough logs to make about 40 8" NE bowls plus a bunch of smaller items.

Nice looking bowl Ed...that should keep you busy for awhile! Is pecan easy to turn?

Paul, Pecan is very hard. I had a time keeping my tools sharp enough to cut it without too much trouble. Once I got the piece round, it wasn't too bad.

Ed, it sure makes a nice bowl, and I hope you feel it is worth the effort involved.

Very nice bowl Ed! But you better get going on the rest of those blanks, pecan only gets harder as it dries. After turning a piece that had dried out a bit, I understand why they refer to it as pecancrete!

Ed I love what you can do with pecan, but it is a member of the hickory family. Hickory axe handles and stuff. Once it dries out it is very hard to turn. Even harder on HSS tools. What ever pieces you know you won't get to for a while coat the ends with anchor seal to keep in some of the moisture. Just a little advice from someone who turns alot of pecan. Also don't store in the sun.

Congrats on all that Pecan Ed! From the sounds of it, you will be a getting a workout when turning it! Have fun!
