sycamore - i used sycamore because it was the only very dry wood i had, the bottom cap has to be glued , and i did not want any wood movement, the bradford pear is still very green

the petroglyphs is not an X. it is called facing birds. spring and early summer the birds here in virginia fly around chasing each other. they end up belly to belly hovering. the artist of the petroglyphs were very graphic, much more so than today, but and this is my opinion, they differentiated between casual sex that they celebrated and marriage which they also celebrated. i believe the facing bird was a wedding symbol. the wings on the back side of the two birds normally mean rain, but in this connotation means be fertile, or the marriage to be fertile. this is just my interpretation of the petroglyphs.
