Those of you who have built your own steady rest would you mind sharing what type of wheel you use and where you got them. Would you do anything different?

I’m thinking of gluing three pieces of Baltic Birch plywood for the frame and using some left over Jatoba for the wheel supports.

All comments welcome.

I have a PM3520 Lathe.

Thanks.
Jay

In addition to the posts John sited, I went to Play It Again Sports, bought on old set of roller blades for $15 and took the wheels and bearing off of them. Used 4 from one side and gave the other 4 to my buddy.

look at garage sales for roller blades - usually pretty inexpensive.

In addition to roller blade wheels, I used T-track for the arms. The tracks allows you to use a 1/4"-20 bolt to secure the arms positions.

I use the same as Steve. T-track makes it nice and easy to build. I got a set of roller blades which gave me 8 wheels at the Thrift store for $1.75.
