Scored some english walnut slabs a few weeks ago. I'm on a platter craze now so it fit very well!
14 1/4" Cheese and cracker platter, 6" green marble slab. After a phone chat with Baxter a coouple days ago (thanks again sir!!) I burned the rim and ran a file card over it for some texture, burned the accent ring, but due to sanding, some of the burning was sanded off. Touched it up with some dye and couldn't tell the difference. 2 coats of Tung oil finish. Just have to sand the backside and turn off the tenon. Pic is a little fuzzy because my stupid tripod is not where it's supposed to be:mad:. Thanks for looking! C&C always used on the next one!

Jim, this one I like - a lot!!! Very well done, and the detailing is well proportioned. Beautiful walnut, too.

Jim,
Very nice. A nice large platter that will be put to great use, I am sure. Well Done.

Jim you've got a winner there! Very nicely done.

I was inspired to make a similar platter after you posted the oak one.

A suggestion for your centers, find some solid surface scraps. That's what I used.

Beautiful work Jim!

I have not turned a platter yet and am curious if this includes a foot of some type? Just wondering if the piece is raised off the table a bit to make it easier to pick up.

A real beauty Jim. Excellent choice of embellishments. I just ordered around 1/2 a dozen platter blanks myself.

Thanks for the kind words folks!
Steve, all of these sit off the table about 3/4 to 7/8" for just that purpose. The foot is about 10" since there is stuff on the outside...just more stable for a high use object. The rim always has a slope of some kind...that red oak one I posted awhile back is a good example, and I always put a cove in the underside for a finger hold.

Thanks Jeff!
The CSUSA has gray and green 6" slabs. I'd really like some 8" ones but they are illusive! Until I find a better source...I'll stick with them.
