Has anyone ever done this? What did you use and how did it work out? I'm considering doing it on mine.

Me too (on my ryobi 16/32).

Grizzly makes a hook and loop conversion kit for one of their drum sanders. I've read on this forum that people have had success converting their Jet/Performax/Ryobi/Etc drum sanders by modifying this kit:

Not a lot to lose here- if it doesn't work, you can always go back. You're just out $33 bucks and some time... but you know what they say: "There is no such thing as a failed experiment, only experiments with unexpected outcomes."

I run and worked every kind of sander there is in 40 years of commercial woodworking. You will lose the precision of thicknessing with the squishiness of the Velcro. Try it and find out...
