This is my latest project. I plan on doing several of these in various sizes, shapes and wood choices. If all goes well, at lease one of the inner spheres will get hollowed and get 3 cutouts. Outer sphere is 3 1/2" x 7" tall with about an 1/8" wall. The inner sphere is 1" x about 1 5/8" tall. C&C needed on this project. Thanks.

Once again, you guys amaze me by what you turn. Great job, thanks for sharing.

Now that is really cool! I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Now that's creative. I like it, but I'm still digesting it. Could you make the openings in the outer orb larger or with thinner "ribs"? Or maybe smaller openings with even thinner "ribs"? Just trying to envision it that way. Very well done. Next, you need to turn a ball inside a ball inside a ball.

That's pretty cool Ed! Have not seen anything like it before! Only thing I would change - if it were me - would be to align the grain of the inner orb so it is vertical and it matches the opening slots in the outer sphere. Don't know why - just feel it would flow together better.

Looking forward to seeing where you take this!

Very out of the box....or in the sphere thinking Ed. I like it and think you have lots of possibilities!

Ed, I have been giving this one some thought! I think your idea of openings in the inner sphere is a neat idea and would add significantly to this one. I like Steve's idea of the grain orientation and lining up of the openings - you would need four openings, of course. What about a small finial inside the inner sphere - perhaps just a very simple tip? That sure would create some interest!

What you have has good proportions and is well done - very unique!!

Very cool, Ed! But you might want to be careful with this sphere within a sphere thing. You could get caught up in it real easy!

Cool little form...but as mentioned, a potentially slippery slope that you may have a long ride on! Look forward to seeing more variants on this.

Very nice design, well proportioned and nice color scheme.

Things to explore
1) Vary the number of openings, try three or two. Not sure how it would look with the inner ball centered in an opening with a rib dropping behind which an odd number of openings would force.

2) See if you can get the openings more round in appearance. Either perfectly round like the inner sphere, or have the curves top and bottom be a more consistent radius relative to the sphere.
