Reed sent me a chunk of Myrtlewood last January in exchange for some Ambrosia Maple . I cut a shallow bowl off the top of the block using the largest Oneway knife and let it dry. Was looking for another burn candidate a couple of weeks ago and thought this might work.

When I drove out to Oregon 30 years ago, I was impressed with the Myrtlewood and picked up a slab to make a NE clock out of.(Flattened it with a hand plane and belt sander) It still hangs in my dining room. :)

I didn’t get a very good picture but maybe by looking at all of them you can get the general idea of what the stuff looks like. Thanks for the wood Reed! I have two more from that block I will someday get to.:)

That's gorgeous. Wood, form, and finish are all great. BTW, what is the finish?

Nice form and rim treatment. I have a few pieces of myrtle, but never saw anything quite this nice.

Ooooo weee! That's a nice bowl Baxter. I'm not fond of the square edge, but the rim treatment and general form is awfully nice.

Wow! What a beautiful bowl! Love all that chatoyancy!! Very nice work on the burned rim - frames the wood quite nicely!

You need a gallery Baxter! Could you talk me through the burn process? I'm looking for a accent style for the redwood I picked up. Yours is as fine as I've seen!

Baxter,

That is a great looking bowl. I know Reed is going to be really impressed when he sees it. I know I am.

I kind of take Myrtle for granted as there is a lot of it out here. It will glow like few other woods, and is one that will benefit from sanding to higher grits.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Thanks again Reed for the wood swap! The Myrtle is very pretty in the living room and I use your Madrone bowls everytime I make a salad. Last night being the most recent!:D
