This one is for sale about an hour away... apparently it is an 8" but other than that no details are available. Any ideas? Trying to gauge if its worth the drive.

Looks like a Grizzly G1018 8" machine.
I had one. Nice machine.

Not much art in a jointer. If it's heavy and flat and has a decent sized motor then price would be my only consideration...

There was a Senco here in Cincinnati on CL a few months ago that looked similar in shape but it was blue.

Asian of some type. Many were Geetech made. Not worth a lot. Dave

Looks a lot like my old 8" grizzly.

Thanks all... consensus seems to be the older grizzly. Any suggestions on what it's worth? It will be my first jointer.... probably more than I need but would rather get something good than some junk I'll get frustrated with and want to upgrade.

Another vote for a Taiwanese Geetech product. They made machines for all sorts of brands. If the beds are flat and nothing is seriously amiss, it would be worth $400ish in my area.

Those cost about $800 new in 1990 time frame.

I recently sold a Grizzly G1018, in near perfect condition, for $450 (with an extra set of knives).

This one looks a little different than what I had - first is I have never seen a grizzly with a green safety cover. All of the ones I have owned/seen were orange covers. Second, the on/off switch is mounted on the front, where as mine was mounted on the side of the machine. Third.... its hard to tell from the photo, but the green color looks just a shade darker in the picture than the grizzly color.

Having said all that - there isnt much to these machines. A flat bed is important (but really, its hard to tell. You can lay a straight edge across it but this doesnt necessarily denote 'flat' - maybe someone clever here can tell a method for measuring 'flatness' - I dont know how without setting it up on a CMM).

And the motor is important. See what size and specs are on the motor.

If it all checks out and cleans up, a great workhorse of a jointer. I had no issues with mine at all. (and only sold it to upgrade to a 12")
